“Flexible Working does not simply refer to where you work, whether it is home or office but also when and how you work”
Flexible Working moreover is generally known as allowing employers and employees to work wherever and whenever to their accountability.
Traditional methods of working, the usual 9 - 5 at the Office force your creative thinking and ideas when maybe that time is not the best to challenge the best of you.
Most of the work in global innovative companies where their success depends on Idea generation and constant innovation, producing maximum results, more in the night. Individuals were better able to generate results in the late hours. Now this idea should not be confused with working overtime after the usual 9-5. For this reason, being creative and forcing to let your imaginative juices flow does not have to happen in the usual 9-5 at the Office as it does not work for everyone.
As Competition is on the rise, businesses should be concerned as to how well they can position in the market differentiating their product against rival firms. The success of the unique selling point of your product in the business mostly comes down to how well your team members brainstorm new product innovations to raise table stakes in the industry. That being so allowing a flexible day/night shift work policy that makes it easier for your employees will be critical for your organization's success. This allows your team to work in a way that fits their lifestyle to work at their most efficient time during the day/ night.
However, you might be thinking then how will my team members get to present themselves in important meetings or face to face or discussions? In a practical sense would the late hours be convenient for everybody else working alongside these night shift employees?
This is why you can have a Common Day/Days and Fixed time when everybody has to be in the office, for example maybe 10-2 where all compulsory meetings or discussions can be held between this time slot. A weekly Monday or Tuesday is fixed where everyone has to be in the office at a fixed time so that the rest of the week will be flexible.
However, this needs an established trust between you and your team for this successful work of Flexibility or sadly none of this will bring benefits to your company.
The bottom line is this: you are responsible for your own happiness, but you should always be aware of the cost. If you feel you will be able to perform to new levels and maintain a sense of peace in your career, then by all means explore, but please remember that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. It shouldn’t be a question of “Why did you hire them?” but “When will we get to work together again?”
Modern Businesses have to move on from the usual traditional 9-5 as times have changed and most of the success is based on technology advancements hence the higher demand for life-changing ideas. Working styles are influenced by ever-changing automation, and adapting to advancing technology trends means recognizing certain people work differently. For it all, no trust to work flexibly between employer and employee means that your own employees' accountability and confidentiality cannot be trusted either. Thereby bringing us to the question of why did we hire them in the first place?
